Prime day deal…worth it! – I camp…errr… glamp. A lot. Having ice is a must. I work as a nurse and like the chewable ice that we give patients. This thing does the trick! In fact, my neighbor’s 1 year old loves the thing so much, he comes daily for his cup of ice! He’s 1! I have disabled my regular Icemaker and have used this full time since my purchase.

It works great, creates ice fast, and gets the job done well – albeit with flaws – So far, it’s been chugging along doing its thing, and doing it pretty well. It is kinda noisy when the motor is running to make more ice, but it’s in a room with a water cooler, and other things like that, so it is not really a big deal. Yes, you can hear it dropping ice nuggets into the bin from another room, but it isn’t like overly annoying or anything.

Noisy! – We’ve had the a few of the original opal machines, and another name brand. All of them are noisy… but this one takes the cake. It is super annoying noisy. It is pretty, looks great sitting on our counter…. But, 8 months into ownership and we are looking for a new one. We’ve cleaned this one, even taken it apart… but, the noise is in the main pump and parts that can’t be cured. Not sure we’ll but another one of these- too many on the market to only have one last 9-10 months.

You get what you pay for… – I got this to replace an Opal icemaker which I had for several years and had stopped working, because I did not want to pay the premium price for a second one, and already owned a side water tank. On the plus side, the side water tank works just fine with this unit. On the minus, the main issue I have with this ice maker is that it appears the ice is not quite as cold as the Opal’s was, and as a result, it always melts together in the storage bin and requires breaking up every time you want ice. Never had that issue with the Opal, and while it sounds like a minor annoyance, it becomes a headache to deal with daily. Had I known, I might have spent the extra money to get another Opal. It does produce a good quantity of ice daily, but also seems to randomly shut itself off at times despite regular cleanings. It also seems louder than the Opal was; I often hear ice falling into the bin from several rooms away.

Great ice machine ! – Let’s face it , this earned Atleast 4 stars just because it makes Sonic ice ! The only problem I have with it is the weird dinky ice scoop that you pretty much have to use if your going to get ice out for a drink straight from the machine . The ice tray holder is deep but narrow so you only get a small handful of ice with each scoop . Which I guess wouldn’t be a problem if you just want a little ice but if your a Sonic ice lover your gonna want to fill that tumbler full to the brim which makes it a pain with the tiny ice scoop . Other than that , it makes quite a bit of ice in one day and we enjoy the heck out of it ! I am now the best Grandma , mother and mother in law ever because I provide the Good ice lol .
