Works well, melts in a short time. – I have had this unit for about 6 months now, as the reviews say the ice melts fast in the basket. However, we live in an apartment with an older fridge that has no ice maker. With a large family that consumes a lot of ice, we use this as a rapid ice maker. It can fill 2 ice trays in an hour and a half. We drop the ice 2-3 of the large pieces in the trays, put them in the freezer to freeze the damp surface of the ice, then dump them in an ice bucket (a bit bigger than an ice cream tub). Rinse and repeat until the ice bucket is full and that lasts us a few days. It is a bit noisy though tolerable.
